Currently, there are 257 animals to be collected. Tier 1 and tier 2 animals can be gained by completing the Heart bar (by pumping 11 hearts), in an animal pack at the Pet Store or by splicing it using its recipe at the Altar. Animals you have collected can spawn (only visually) in your city and roam free (walk) on Tree tiles, except for Birds and Aquatic animals, which can be found on Water tiles. Clones, however, only show on Roadways and near their workplaces.
Tiering system[]
There are six tiers, denoted by the background color of the animal's image. Tiers 1 and 2 can be rewarded randomly via Hearts or the Animal Shelter. Tiers 3 and up can only be collected by splicing them in the Altar. In general, the higher the tier, the more expensive the recipe is. Plus, high tier animals will generally require at least one animal of the same tier or one below. So, a tier 3 will often use at least one tier 2 or 3 animal, Tier 4 uses at least one animal of tier 3/4, and so on.
Tier 1-2 animals[]
These animals can be received in an animal pack or crafted in the Altar using their formula. Animal Packs can be received as a reward for filling the Heart bar, as a Daily Gift during some of the Seasons, as a Daily Gift at the Animal Shelter or by spending either 40cr or 8u at the Pet Store. In the last case, you get an Animal Pack containing not only one animal, but 9 animals instead!
Note that in order to craft some of the Cats or Dogs, the formula requires any 2 cats or dogs. Apart from that, many cats and dogs share their formula. This means that the recipe may or may not result in that specific cat or dog. Also note that inputting the same 2 cats or dogs twice in a row will not necessarily have the same outcome, since it is the formula for a random cat or dog.
